Organic
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, searchOrganic may refer to:
- Of or relating to an organism In biology, an organism is any contiguous living system . In at least some form, all organisms are capable of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth and development, and maintenance of homoeostasis as a stable whole. An organism may either be unicellular (single-celled) or be composed of, as in humans, many trillions of cells grouped into, a living Life is a characteristic that distinguishes objects that have signaling and self-sustaining processes (biology) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or else because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate entity
- Of or relating to an organ (anatomy) In biology and anatomy, an organ is a collection of tissues joined in structural unit to serve a common function
Chemistry
- Organic matter Organic matter is matter that has come from a once-living organism; is capable of decay, or the product of decay; or is composed of organic compounds. The definition of organic matter varies upon the subject it is being used for - matter that has come from a once-living organism, is capable of decay or the product of decay, or is composed of organic compound.
- Organic chemistry Organic chemistry is a discipline within chemistry that involves the scientific study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-based compounds, hydrocarbons, and their derivatives. These compounds may contain any number of other elements, including hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, the halogens as well as, chemistry involving organic compounds
- Organic compound An organic compound is any member of a large class of chemical compounds whose molecules contain carbon. For historical reasons discussed below, a few types of compounds such as carbonates, simple oxides of carbon and cyanides, as well as the allotropes of carbon, are considered inorganic. The distinction between "organic" and ", a compound that contains carbon (although some carbon-containing compounds are excluded).
Farming, certification and products:
- Organic farming Organic farming is the form of agriculture that relies on crop rotation, green manure, compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and control pests, excluding or strictly limiting the use of synthetic fertilizers and synthetic pesticides, plant growth regulators, livestock antibiotics, food additives, - agriculture conducted according to certain standards, especially the use of only naturally produced fertilizers and non-chemical means of pest control
- Organic certification Organic certification is a certification process for producers of organic food and other organic agricultural products. In general, any business directly involved in food production can be certified, including seed suppliers, farmers, food processors, retailers and restaurants. Requirements vary from country to country, and generally involve a set, accreditation process for producers of organic products
- Organic clothing Organic clothing is clothing made from materials raised or grown in compliance with organic agricultural standards[citation needed], clothing produced from organic fibers such as organic cotton Organic cotton is generally understood as cotton, from non genetically modified plants, that is certified to be grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. Its production also promotes and enhances biodiversity and biological cycles. In the United States cotton plantations must also meet the.
- Organic food Organic foods are made in a way that limits or excludes the use of synthetic materials during production. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as organic; only during the 20th century was a large supply of new synthetic chemicals introduced to the food supply. This more recent style of production is referred to as &, food produced from organic farming methods and often certified organic according to organic farming standards
- Organic baby products Organic baby products are made without pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically modified organisms, additives, irradiation or sewage sludge. The manufacturer of such a product can only make these claims in marketing and advertising materials if the product has obtained organic certification, organic products intended for babies and toddlers
- Organic movement The organic movement broadly refers to the organizations and individuals involved worldwide in the promotion of organic farming, which they believe to be a more sustainable mode of agriculture. Its history goes back to the first half of the 20th century, when modern large-scale agricultural practices began to appear, movement of organizations and individuals promoting organic farming and organic food
- See also sustainable agriculture Sustainable agriculture uses ecological principles to farm, hence the prefex agro- to farm and ecology- the science of the relationship between organisms and their environment. It has been defined as "an integrated system of plant and animal production practices having a site-specific application that will, over the long term:
Computing:
- Wetware computer A wetware computer is an organic computer built from living neurons. Professor Bill Ditto, at the Georgia Institute of Technology, is the primary researcher driving the creation of these artificially constructed, but still organic brains. One prototype is constructed from leech neurons, and is capable of performing simple arithmetic operations (or organic computer), a computer built from living neurons and ganglions
- Organic computing Organic computing is a form of biologically-inspired computing with organic properties. It has emerged recently as a challenging vision for future information processing systems. Organic Computing is based on the insight that we will soon be surrounded by large collections of autonomous systems, which are equipped with sensors and actuators, aware, computing systems with properties of self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing, and/or self-protection
- Organic search Organic search results are listings on search engine results pages that appear because of their relevance to the search terms, as opposed to their being advertisements. In contrast, non-organic search results may include pay per click advertising, search results through unpaid search engine listings, rather than through paid advertisements
- Organic search engine An organic search engine is a manually operated search service which uses a combination of computer algorithims and human researchers to look up a search query. A search query submitted to an organic search engine is analysed by a human operator who researches the query then formats the response to the user, search engine which uses a combination of human operators and computer algorithms
- Organic semiconductor An organic semiconductor is an organic material that has semiconductor properties. Semiconductivity is exhibited by single molecules, short chain and organic polymers. Semiconducting small molecules (aromatic hydrocarbons) include the polycyclic aromatic compounds pentacene, anthracene, and rubrene. Examples of polymeric semiconductors are poly(3-, an organic compound that exhibits similar properties to inorganic semiconductors
Economics and business:
- Organic growth In finance, organic growth is the process of business expansion due to increased output, sales, or both, as opposed to mergers, acquisitions, or take-overs. Typically, the organic growth rate also excludes the impact of foreign exchange. Growth including foreign exchange, but excluding divestitures and acquisitions is often referred to as core, business expansion through increasing output and sales as opposed to mergers, acquisitions and take-overs
- Organic organisation Also called organismic organization, this form of organizational structure was widely sought and proposed, but never proved to really exist since it, adversely to the mechanistic organization, has the least hierarchy and specialization of functions. For an organization to be organic, people in it should be equally leveled, with no job descriptions, one which is flexible and has a flat structure

- Organicism Organicism is a philosophical orientation that asserts that reality is best understood as an organic whole. By definition it is close to holism. Plato, Hobbes or Constantin Brunner are examples of such philosophical thought, the biological doctrine which stresses the organization, rather than the composition, of organisms
- Organic disease An organic disease is one which involves or affects physiology or bodily organs. A disease in which there is a physiological change to some tissue or organ of the body, involving or affecting physiology or bodily organs.
- Biological process A biological process is a process of a living organism. Biological processes are made up of any number of chemical reactions or other events that results in a transformation, or organic process

How does Organic pet food help my pet live longer? Is there a difference between Organic and all natural food?
Q. I have been thinking about feeding my dog Organic pet foods, then I see something called "all natural foods." What is the difference if any?

A. Organic means grown without herbicides or pesticides. All natural means everything in it is natural... eg. a plant, animal or grain. Pesticides are made to kill things... anyone who thinks they can kill the bugs and weeds but are perfectly safe to consume should really think about it. I know they are consumed in minute quantities, but over time I tend to wonder why we have so much more cancer and immunodeficiency ailments these days such as asthma and severe allergies. Whichever you go with be sure it is a good quality animal diet... as far as cost goes you are better off buying a grain free (or at lease wheat and corn free) diet over an organic diet with wheat or corn in the top 5 ingredients. If you can afford an organic grain free… [cont.]
