A. Well, first you need to genuinely enjoy chemistry. Try a few simple experiments, learn why they work, and if you get bored, forget about it. If not, maybe there's a major in organic chemistry in your future. P.S. If you're interested in chemistry because of molecules like LSD, here's a great experiment for a beginner to toy with:

An atmospheric chemist studying the reactions of the pollutant SO2 places a mixture of SO2 and O2 in a 3.52 L ?
Q. An atmospheric chemist studying the reactions of the pollutant SO2 places a mixture of SO2 and O2 in a 3.52 L container at 895 K and an initial pressure of 1.95 atm. When the reaction occurs, gaseous SO3 forms, and the pressure eventually falls to 1.65 atm. How many moles of SO3 form?
Asked by f_350crewcab - Mon Oct 13 17:59:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Use PV = nRT to get the change in the number of moles. Use the balanced equation to see how this relates to the number of moles SO3 formed. That's all there is to it. Over to you.

A. I don't know the answer to this, but I do know, after being prescribed these, that they will become highly addictive if you carry on taking them for longer than is recommended, and will become less effective as well. Meaning that the more you take, the more you will need in the future to get the same effects from the original dose. That is why you are usually only prescribed a short course of these tablets. A word of warning if you are considering buying these over the internet, or any other source which isn't covered by a legal prescription --- you may think you are getting the correct medication, but there are unscrupulous people out there who are only in it to make money. Be very careful as you can't be 100% certain you are taking… [cont.]

What type of chemist works with acids and bases?
Q. I need any help possible please! Please name a chemist that would be employed in a named industry or enterprise that works with acids or bases or chemical spills. Thank you.
Asked by Mitchell A - Mon May 19 01:01:13 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Acids and bases are so fundemental that all chemists work with them in some sense. The person who manages say, a spill of hydrochloric acid, would be an industrial hygienist, OSHA-compliance specialist or hazmat liason. These may be stand-alone titles or part of a job description under another title. The Bureau of Labor Statistics website could help you find that title or job description.

A. The area under the peaks of a NMR spectrum is directly proportional to the number of hydrogens that account for tha signal. The splitting of the peaks give an indication of the number of near neighbor hydrogens to the hydrogen giving the signal.

How many years of School to be a Organic Chemist?
Q. How many years of School do you need to be a Organic Chemist?
Asked by TJ - Sat Jun 16 23:41:26 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It all depends on how far you want to take your education. If, for instance, you got a job as a BS chemist in a pharmaceutical company doing organic synthesis then you are technically an organic chemist. If you want an advanced degree then there are two to choose from. The first is a masters degree. This usually takes 2 to 3 years. Most professors in PhD granting universities do not like to have masters students. They rather have PhD students. Sometimes the masters degree is kind of looked upon as a consolation prize for those who could not complete the PhD. I personally do not agree with this philosophy but nevertheless it exists. The second degree is the PhD. This can take anywhere from 4-8 years depending on the professor. … [cont.]

What do you need to be a Forensic Chemist?
Q. I am in college right now for an Associates degree in Criminal Investigations, but what other degrees or courses do I need to take to become a forensic chemist? I know I have to take some kind of Chemistry course!!! Thanks all!
Asked by kasmira25 - Fri Mar 27 00:41:39 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm studying forensic science in college. My school offers a forensic science degree with a concentration in forensic chemistry and biology. Another way you can become a forensic chemist is to major in chemistry and then go to graduate school and get a degree in forensic science. A criminal investigations degree won't get you there.

To become a chemist, do you have to know every element and atomic number-mass?
Q. Only answer if you are a chemist or have a degree or learning it in collage. I want to become a chemist when I am older but do you really have to know the exact atomic number/weight and all the elements(ex. Hydrogen- atomic weight 1.00794) like that?
Asked by C++ programmer - Wed Aug 15 20:15:12 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can always use the periodic table. You learn the symbols and remember the masses of the most used ones, but remember that there are different isotopes of each element, so different weights, that make the average given on the periodic table.(also in the average is included the relative amounts of each isotope) You also learn where they fall on the table and that tells you how they might react.

Do you need to be really good at math to become a chemist or biologist?
Q. I'm majoring in biological sciences and might go into biotechnology, genetics, or cell biology. However, my I'm no mathematician. I know that I'm required to take two years of calculuds at the college I'm attending, and I have no problem with that. But do chemist use a lot of math in the field, besides algebra--which I'm pretty good at?
Asked by anonymous - Fri Sep 1 14:02:45 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm a Ph.D. Chemist and I was always good at math - though I never considered myself an "expert" at it. I've worked several jobs in industry, and none have required a lot of math. Certainly no calculus, differential equations or anything like that...that's the realm of engineering, not chemistry. Good Luck with your career :-)
