Analytical chemistry is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. Qualitative analysis gives an indication of the identity of the chemical species in the sample and quantitative analysis determines the amount of one or more of these components. The separation of components is often performed prior to analysis. Analytical methods can be separated into classical and instrumental. Classical methods (also known as wet chemistry methods) use separations such as precipitation, extraction, and distillation and qualitative analysis by color, odor, or melting point. Quantitative analysis is achieved by measurement of weight or volume. Instrumental methods use an apparatus to measure physical quantities of the analyte such as light absorption, fluorescence, or conductivity. The separation of materials is accomplished using chromatography or electrophoresis methods. Analytical chemistry is also focused on improvements in experimental design, chemometrics, and the creation of new measurement tools to provide better chemical information. Analytical chemistry has applications in forensics, bioanalysis, clinical analysis, environmental analysis, and materials analysis. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by "you know what it is" - Mon Jul 17 19:00:41 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. huge.. analytical is generally for determining what is in a substance or for purifying substances, or for anything else a company would need physical occasionally has applications in analytical, but it's much more technical and much more interested in discovering new things without respect to whether or not those things are useful Answered by twinsfan - Mon Jul 17 19:10:44 2006 what is the difference between the organic chemistry and analytical chemistry.? Q. Chemistry Asked by atul - Fri Jun 23 09:47:39 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Organic chemistry deals with carbon-based compounds. Organic chemists typically synthesize compounds in a laboratory. Analytical chemistry is the chemistry of analysis, and may be equally applied to organic and inorganic compounds. A lot of what you will learn in college analytical chemistry will be acid-base calculations, and theory applied to modern analytical techniques (at least that's what I remember). Analytical chemists typically analyze compounds in a laboratory (to let the organic chemist know that he/she actually made what they thought they did). Q. I'm wondering if anyone out there has taken an analytical chemistry course in college? I go to the University of Kansas, but I'd take input from anyone who has taken a course in it. What kind of subjects did you go over? Did you consider it very difficult etc? I've taken through two semester of organic chemistry and found them to be challenging but not too difficult. Any input would be great!
